ATTENTION ALL TOWN OF COLLINS WATER CUSTOMERS
This brutal winter is taking a toll on our water lines, and we are asking you to help us -- by helping yourself.
While it is the Town of Collins Water Department's responsibility to maintain our lines and meters, the portion of the service connection between the street valve box and your home is yours, and we ask that you take the proper precautions to make sure your water stays flowing.
As the temperatures continue to drop, there are a few things you can do to make sure your service line does not freeze:
➢ Keep the water running a stream about the size of a pencil lead,
➢ Use heat-tape on any exposed water lines in unheated spaces,
➢ Try not to expose the ground surface in the area over your buried service,
➢ Don't go for extended periods without using water.
If you think your line is frozen, please call us and we can check to see where the problem is, but if it is on your service line you will need to call a plumber.
Also, please remember that it is unlawful to plow or blow snow on or around a fire hydrant. If there is a hydrant in front of your home, please keep it free of as much snow as possible. Our crews do not want to damage your property by plowing or put snow where you don't want it. Your cooperation is appreciated.
If we all work together we can keep the water flowing and minimize the costs associated with frozen pipes.
There are three water districts in the Town of Collins:
#1 - Collins.....#3 - Collins Center.....#4 - Armes Court
